Collecting
Insights and Perspectives
- In the past, photography was somewhat excluded from mainstream art. That has changed in the last 10 years or so with photography very much a part of the contemporary art scene, at least.
- Collecting photography can be somewhat more difficult than paintings or sculpture due to the medium’s reproducibility. Collectors understand that a masterpiece painting could not be reproduced exactly whilst an artist is alive and not at all after the artist has died. With photography, collectors have concerns about the ability to easily reproduce works and how it would affect the value of their own pieces.

| Although historically the value of works of photography has risen over long-term periods, there have been periods where this has not been the case. There is no guarantee that the photography market will continue to rise in the future. |
