Original Hollywood photographs sell well above estimate
The sum of two million dollars was fetched by Profile in History auction house in a two day sale of a large vintage glamour photography collection this March.  Among the sale highlights were rare modeling shots of Angelina Jolie, age 15, which sold for $2,500 each - more than six times their estimate - according to the auction house spokesperson.  Profile in History is the US’s leader in dealing with the world’s largest auctioneer of original Hollywood memorabilia and vintage photography since 1996.

Photo-London, one of the most important events in the UK photography market, has been cancelled as of January 2009. Reed Expositions cancelled the fair due to lack of interest from the galleries and has announced that they will not host it in 2009 due to market volatility. Photo-London was launched in 2005 and merged with Paris-Photo in 2007.

Reed says that the fair may be back in the future and that they will look to expand into other regions, such as the Middle East. This year’s Paris-Photo will continue to be held in November 2009 but will focus more on Arabian and Persian photography, demonstrating the firm’s intent on expanding into that region.

Although historically the value of works of photography has risen over long-term periods, there have been periods where this has not been the case. There is no guarantee that the photography market will continue to rise in the future.
